Gym Class Exorcist is a sports-equipment-ghost-beating first person fitness-action RPG, which strives to motivate players to perform physical exercise as a way to better their mental health.
"It wasn't supposed to be like this..."
When Izumi, a lonesome 14-year old, decided to initiate a ghostly apocalypse that would help him get back at his bullies, he never thought things would end up like this. Not being able to control the ghosts he summoned wasn’t in the books; on top of that, it didn’t help that the school already felt haunted well before his time there. Izumi does gain a skill that helps a lot though: trapping ghosts within sports equipment to fight back against them with, which is great… especially for someone like Izumi who definitely doesn’t do sports.
“Ghosts” are a large part of the game, both literally and metaphorically. The latter refers to the fact that the ghosts in this game represent a less-optimal mental health state. Through using sports equipment and doing exercise, Izumi is able to clear the ghosts away. Metaphorically, this is to illustrate that physical exercise can improve one’s mental health.
Strava Integration - Regulating emotions through a fitness-component
The three main goals that this initiative strives to achieve include:
- Improve the game’s accessibility
- Foster a sense of community
- Organic marketing
Due to scope, the current plan for Strava integration involves taking a player’s step count as collected by Strava to be converted to in-game resources, which the player can use to unlock new skills, improve their weapon’s handling, or use in-battle.
Battling Ghosts with Haunted Sports Equipment
Gym Class Exorcist features a design that motivates customizing existing athletic tools to match the player's respective play styles. Through different colour dynamic combinations, players will be able to experiment and eventually master skills.
A colourful cast of characters
Interact with a wide range of characters with their own motivations and personalities. Befriend these characters and improve their relationships with Izumi.
